Awards @ CHSPS

Central High Sedgewick Public School recognizes excellence and achievement in the areas of academics, citizenship and athletics. Awards ceremonies are held in the fall for senior-high students and in late June for junior-high students. Please see below for the awards and scholarships available to CHSPS students. Recipients are chosen by the CHSPS Awards Committee unless otherwise stated.

Honours Awards

Honours Awards will be awarded to all students in each grade who achieve a weighted average of 80% (higher than 79.50% = 80%) or more. Students:

  • must be enrolled in a minimum of 15 credits in the school year
  • must have an average of 80% or greater using final marks from the courses taken during the past school year 

Averages are calculated by adding total percentage points and total credits. The total percentage point value is then divided by the total credit value for a weighted average. 

First Class Honours will be awarded to students in each grade who achieve an average of 90% or greater. (Higher than 89.50% = 90%)

Top Academic Awards will be awarded to the student in each grade who achieves the highest overall average as per the criteria above.

Subject Awards will be awarded to students who were enrolled in courses in that year and achieved the highest overall mark. 

Athletic Awards

Athletic Awards are awarded to students who demonstrate:

  • participation in a variety of school athletic teams/ events
  • sportsmanship
  • ability in the sports they play
  • a knowledge of the rules
  • a positive attitude towards practices, other players, referees and other teams
  • a conscientious effort in practices and competition
  • leadership and punctuality

Major Awards

Major awards will be chosen by the CHSPS Awards Committee based on the criteria provided unless otherwise specified.

Alberta Teachers Association Award will be awarded to a grade 12 student who has been accepted into an education program at a post-secondary institution.

Arnett and Burgess Sponsorship Program will be awarded to a student in good standing, who has been accepted into a program that will directly support the energy sector. This sponsorship will recognize a student with a stellar determination to bring fresh passion and commitment to the field. This commitment may come in the form of either an academic or trades based exploration, acknowledging the broad expanse of the petroleum sector.  The recipient may be moving into land management, engineering,  machinist, welder, pipe fitter, mechanics or electrician. Any program that supports the energy sector is applicable. Arnett & Burgess will tailor their support to the specific recipient each year. The support provided may come in the form of $500, or a career starter pack with specific tools or materials that relate to the recipient’s specialization

*Students must contact Ms. Ryan and with her assistance write a letter to A&B introducing themselves and explaining why A&B should choose them for this sponsorship program. The company wants to know why they are passionate about the energy sector and what they would bring to the table. A&B will choose the recipient.

Business Award will be awarded to a grade 12 student who has been accepted into a post-secondary program related to: business, commerce, accounting or economics.

Citizenship Award will be awarded to a grade 12 student who has demonstrated excellence in the areas of academics, leadership in school-sponsored, community or extracurricular activities, and a willingness to place the good of others above personal ambitions.

CHSPS Parent Council Scholarship will be awarded to a grade 12 student who attends all of their classes, perseveres through any circumstances, is dedicated to helping others and lets their individuality and uniqueness shine through.

Cyril/Marguerite Drever Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a grade 12 student from Hardisty, preferably one who is pursuing a career in Agriculture or a related field.

Darell and Winnie Goodrich Scholarship will be awarded to two grade 12 students (one male and one female) from Hardisty based on academic achievement.

George Jenvey Scholarship will be awarded to a grade 12 student who has been accepted into an education program at a post-secondary institution specializing in science education.

Gibson Energy Scholarship will be awarded to a student from Sedgewick or Hardisty. Please click here for more information and to apply.

Governor General Academic Medal will be awarded to a grade 12 student who meets the criteria as set out by the Governor General. This criteria can be found here https://www.gg.ca/en/honours/governor-generals-awards/governor-generals-academic-medal 

Green Certificate Award will be awarded to a grade 12 student with the highest overall achievement in the green certificate program.

Jen Dammann Scholarship will be awarded to a grade 12 student who has been accepted into a program related to Early Childhood Development. 

Katelynn Berrecloth School Spirit Award will be awarded to a grade 12 student who was involved in Students' Union & School Sports.

Lauren Brodie Scholarship will be awarded to a grade 12 female student involved in sports. Preference is to be given to a student who has not been considered for an academic award and is going into agricultural or environmental studies.

Lindseth Holdings Scholarship will be awarded to a grade 12 student entering the field of mechanics.

RAP Award will be awarded to a grade 12 student with the highest overall achievement in the RAP program based on the reviews of their supervisor.

Technology Award will be awarded to a grade 12 student who has been accepted into a post-secondary program related to: computer engineering, computing science, business technology, food science and technology, analytical sciences, information and communication technology, manufacturing and automation, renewable resources and environmental services, or energy technology.
